We recently sampled the newly released Method & Madness selection of whiskeys that feature unusual wood e.g. Chestnut French Limousin oak and virgin Spanish oak.

We were inspired to investigate further and have cobbled together an unrivalled selection of Unusual Woods for this event:

  • "Midleton Dair Ghaelach" - Aged Pot Still whiskeys of Midleton that have been finished in virgin Irish Oak from Grinsell's Wood in Co. Kilkenny
  • "Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Reserve" - A vatting of Japanese Malts from the Hanyu and Chichibu distilleries that have been matured exclusively in Japanese Mizunara oak (Quercus mongolica)
  • "Hammer Head 1989" - A Cold War era Czech Single Malt that has matured for 23 years in Czech oak
  • "Adnam's Spirit of Broadside" - An English Bitters Beer derived Spirit that is aged in heavily toasted Russian oak
  • "Aureum 1865 Ziegler" - A German Chestnut Cask Single Malt Whiskey
  • "Cleveland Underground" - An American Bourbon with Black Cherry Wood Finish
  • "Mackmyra Svensk Ek" - A Swedish malt matured in barrels made from oak trees planted, centuries ago, on the island of  Visingsö
